What yacht courses do Lagoon Watersports offer?

We have an experienced and professional team of instructors that teach: RYA Start Yachting, RYA Competent Crew, RYA Dayskipper, RYA Coastal Skipper and RYA Yachtmaster.


What yacht course is best for a beginner?

RYA Competent Crew. This a 5 day practical course. Or for a taster the two day weekend RYA Start Yachting course.


What course gives me a license to charter a yacht?

The RYA Dayskipper. To start the RYA Dayskipper you will need your 5 day practical Competent Crew or equivalent experience. The Dayskipper entail 5 days of theory in the classroom and 5 days practical onboard the yacht. You will also need your VHF license which you can do with us...

We have a Beneteau 36.7 and a Beneteau First 35.


How many people on a course?

The maximum on a yacht courses is 5 persons


When do the practical yacht courses run?

The yacht courses run either Mon-Fri or over weekends from February to November.


Do I stay onboard the yacht for the practical courses?

If you are doing a weekday course you stay onboard the yacht. If you are doing the weekend courses, usually over the first weekend you do not stay onboard but the second long weekend you will stay onboard.


Where do the yacht courses start?

The courses start from our base in Brighton Marina: Pontoon 6, Brighton Marina, Brighton, East Sussex BN2 5UP, UK.


Where are the destinations for the practical courses?

Weekend Part 1: We sail around the Brighton area. Weekend Part 2: We sail to destinations such as Newhaven, Shoreham, Littlehampton and Eastbourne Mon-Fri: We sail to France or the Solent


Is food provided?

Food is not provided for the weekend Part 1 courses. For the weekend Part 2 and weekday Mon-Fri, various meals are provided. An exact breakdown will be given to you in our joining instructions.


What do I need to bring?

We provide specialist equipment. In the winter months it can be cold, thermals, fleeces, woolly hats are all useful to have. During the summer months bring sun hats, sun block and sun glasses. Quick drying clothes can be very practical instead of jeans and good none slip, non marking footwear....


What happens if the weather is bad?
